Founder and Principal Consultant Nathan Auck, has engaged stakeholders at all levels of the educational ecosystem, working towards better experiences and outcomes for each student for over 20 years. He was awarded the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching in 2013, the highest national honor a Math Teacher can receive. He was then awarded a year-long Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellowship for the 2016/2017 school year, focusing on federal educational policy in Washington D.C. before returning home to Salt Lake City to work for the Utah State Board of Education (USBE), where he was named one of 10 NSTA/NCTM National STEM Ambassadors in 2018. There, his work focused on empowering systems leaders to build coherence into their educational initiatives through Utah’s Personalized Competency-based Learning (PCBL) resources and bringing high quality instructional experiences to each and every student. While at USBE, he coauthored Utah’s PCBL Framework, and most of the attendant resources, and administered the PCBL Grant, supporting all Utah LEAs in operationalizing their Portraits of a Graduate. During his tenure, Nathan delivered hundreds of presentations at conferences and schools, engaging audiences that ranged from small instructional teams to keynote sessions of more than 600 participants. He collaborated with communities across Utah to strengthen personalized, competency-based learning practices and expanded the PCBL Summit—a statewide conference for Utah’s Educational leaders—to more than 550 participants in 2025. Nathan also established Utah’s Innovative Learning Network, a consortium of local education agencies dedicated to sharing promising PCBL practices through collaborative visits within Utah and to exemplary programs nationwide. In August 2025, he founded Catalyst for Coherence LLC to continue advancing coherent, learner-centered educational systems within schools, districts, and states.
